Petersfield Marks D-Day80 with a proclamation
Petersfield Town Council is inviting one and all to assemble and hear the proclamation on 6th June 2024; marking exactly 80 years since D-Day.
At 0745 an assembly of uniformed organisations including the Combined Cadet Forces of Churcher’s College and The Petersfield School, and 1927 (Petersfield) Squadron Air Training Corps will gather in the Square for the proclamation (at approximately 0800) said by the Petersfield Town Crier. A parade, led by the Petersfield Branch of the Royal British Legion will then march to the war memorial for a service of remembrance, led by St Peters Church, which will include the last post, two minutes’ silence, and wreath laying. Chris Paige, Chairman of the Petersfield Branch of the Royal British Legion, said: “It is incredibly important for Petersfield to mark this historic anniversary; we have a huge military community and we must continue to remember and reflect on those who gave their tomorrows. We will remember them.”
