Petersfield Town Council is delighted to announce that it has approved one of the most ambitious and comprehensive Climate and Environment Strategies the Council has ever seen. The approval and integration of the 39 additional measures will broaden the Town Council’s scope to allow for influence and leadership in the broader community of Petersfield whilst targeting a larger range of emissions.
The new Climate and Environment Strategy 2024-2029 aims to demonstrate Petersfield Town Councils climate and environmental stewardship. This Strategy recognises the critical role that the Town Council has as local authority to protect the natural environment whilst ensuring enhanced resilience and continued delivery of public services.
Since declaring a Climate Emergency in March 2020 and adopting its Climate Emergency Strategy in 2020 and Action Plan in 2022. The Town Council has made significant progress however, the new Climate and Environment Strategy will foster an innovative commitment towards environmental sustainability aiming to transform the town of Petersfield into a pivotal force for enhanced resilience and green innovation.
“Last Thursday 18th of July, Petersfield Town Council took a significant step in expanding its Climate Strategy initiatives. It did this by adding 39 additional measures from planning policy requirements to additional consideration for resilience and biodiversity. This new expanded Climate and Environment Strategy intends to works in harmony with any future Climate Strategy initiative from District and County.
The Town Mayor JC Crissey extended his congratulations to the Chairman and members of the Finance and General Purpose Committee in passing these additional initiatives and stated, after almost a year in working with senior members of PeCAN, East Hampshire District Council, Town Councillors, Officers and other concerned members of the community. I am delighted that our new expanded Climate and Environment Strategy has been adopted. I am confident that our new Strategy is one of the most comprehensive in the nation I am excited that the Council is now moving towards its creation and implementation”.
