Mayor's Cadet
First Mayor’s Cadet
Petersfield Royal Air Force air cadet, Sergeant Amy Bookham will be the town’s first Mayor’s Cadet.
Sgt Bookham, 15 of Petersfield, was made Mayor’s Cadet for her dedication, work and commitment.
CO of 1927 Squadron, Petersfield, Flying Officer David Taylor, said “The Mayor’s Cadet will accompany the Mayor on appropriate occasions such as Remembrance Sunday Parade.”
Petersfield Mayor, Phil Shaw said; “In July, the Council voted in favour of creating a Mayor’s Cadet and that the Ait Training Corps would nominate this year’s cadet.”
“The plan is for us to work out a rotational system that will allow other cadet forces to be involved in future years.”
Based in the cadet Head Quarters in Beckham Lane, 1927 Squadron is launching a post-pandemic recruiting drive.
Flying Officer Taylor said; “We are up to 30 cadets now, and we are keen to welcome more to the squadron. Cadets take on all sorts of challenges, so if you are aged 12 and in Year 8, come and take a look.”
Cadet activities include flying, gliding, adventure training, music, community events, Duke of Edinburgh Award, drill, first aid, leadership, shooting and sport, among others.
